Adamite (Manganese-bearing)

The rare pink/purple Adamites from the Ojuela Mine were once thought to be cobaltoan but are now known to be manganese-bearing. Very few good pieces came out relatively speaking, although several flats of good material with larger crystals in 1982 were found, and then lesser finds over the years since. This piece is in fact from the 1982 find with its characteristic white lower sections, and lustrous, bright fuchsia pink terminations. The tips are glassy and gemmy, also characteristic of that pocket compared to the later finds. The largest crystal measures 2.0 cm long, and they are sitting on typical oxidized matrix. Very good quality, no major damage and so showy! True classics from the Ojuela Mine, which inarguably has produced the finest Adamite specimens in the world pound for pound. From the collection of Jason Adams, and the piece comes with a label that has an attribution to John Whitmore in February of 1982. Valued on the previous dealer label at $3,500.
