Item Description

Mining has taken place around Lavrion for thousands of years, and mindat.org states, "signs of Cu-ore extraction {date} from the 3rd millennium B.C." Over 600 mineral species have been reported from the Lavrion Mining District, ranging from common to incredibly rare. This is a beautiful specimen of these intensely colored Copper-bearing Adamite specimens featuring small (up to 2 mm) strong green colored crystal groups on underlying oxidized matrix. The Adamites are best seen under magnification. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020.
