Acanthite (excellent sharp crystals) (classic material)

Item Description

A fine quality miniature specimen of this elusive and highly desirable Acanthite specimens from Marienberg in Saxony, Germany. This piece hosts several excellent, well-formed, steel-grey colored, notably sharp and distinct pseudo-octahedral crystals of Acanthite measuring up to 1.0 cm flaring out of crystalline Acanthite matrix. I love the "pagoda"-esque shape of the crystals with their steep pyramidal terminations and excellent form. The entire upper ridge of the piece is filled with excellent crystals, cascading across like mountain peaks on the horizon. An important, high quality and beautiful example of this incredibly hard to find material that dates back to the 1800s. It should be noted that sometimes you will see these specimens labeled as pseudomorphs after Argentite, but they are technically paramorphs as Acanthite will actually become Argentite in an environment where the temperature reaches above 177 degrees Celsius.
