Item Description
This is an exceptional Topaz cluster from the famous Brandberg area of Erongo. It is associated with orthoclase crystals typical of the locale, to prove it. It is one of the larger topazes of which we are aware from these small pockets, which have yielded so much quartz and other species. The large Topaz crystals are intergrown, but very distinct. The largest Topaz is a lustrous chisel-point 8.7 cm across. It is whitish-green and translucent. The smallest 1.4 cm Topaz is very gemmy, and the 5 cm-wide Topaz is quite gemmy around the termination (and much better in person). The Topaz does have a very mild fluorescence. Very few Topaz specimens have come from this region, and so it has a significance for the locale beyond its size only. From the noted collections of Charlie Key. Valued $1500-2000. 900 grams, or just over 2 pounds in weight!
