"Mountain Wood" Amphibole (old classic material)

Item Description

This UNUSUAL and showy specimen TRULY looks like a piece of old wood, but is, in fact, a fibrous form of amphibole. It is pretty light weight for its size, too. This is CLASSIC, OLD-TIME German material and comes with an expertly handwritten, faded label from an older collection. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to World War I. This is certainly one of the weirder mineral species you will see. Perhaps one of our viewers has some additional locality information to pass on.
