Item Description
A very well-preserved and fine quality fossilized jaw bone section of the so-called "Running" Rhino (Hyracodon nebraskensis) from the Oligocene Epoch - 24-38 million years ago - that was found in the White River Badlands of Nebraska. Three distinct teeth are visible in the fossilized jaw bone. Great quality and very attractive in person. The Hyracodon was about 1.5 meters (5 feet) long and actually resembled a primitive horse, but their dental development was much more similar to a rhinoceros, and are referred to as hornless running rhinoceroses. They are actually a close relative of the Paraceratherium, which was the largest land mammal that ever lived, measuring in at 8 meters (26 feet) long.
