Item Description
An impressive, large and RARE style of gypsum from an obscure locality in the Tertiary (Eocene) or Holocene-aged deposits of Smith Couny in East Texas. This dramatic large slightly curved floater plate is composed of intergrown, sharp, lustrous, translucent to transparent, coloress to clay-included gray gypsum crystals. The crystals are strikingly elongated, like fingers, on one end and look like alligator scales on the rest of the piece. Both sides have a surreal appearance. Complete all-around and very nearly pristine with only one gently bruised "finger tip". Amazing for such a soft mineral. An important and excellent Texas rarity! Value??
