Item Description

For all the species at Ojuela, it's amazing how diverse some of them are. Calcites from this prolific mine vary in terms of color and habit as much as any locality in Mexico. This piece features the rarely seen unusually compressed basal / tabular habit with distinct, sharp, lustrous faces and a slightly reddish smoky color when backlit. The largest crystal measures up to 1.7 cm across. Good quality all around, very little damage and just plain different compared to most Calcites we've seen from Ojuela. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#652). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
