Calcite (interesting crystal habit) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A display specimen from an undisclosed mine in Villabona (possibly the Moscona Mine) featuring fairly sharp, translucent, unusually modified scalenohedra of Calcite free of matrix. The habit of the Calcites is what I would describe as pseudo-trapezohedral, as some of them have deltoidal icositetrahedral-esque faces. The entire cluster is nearly crystallized all the way around, but there are a few small points of contact so it's not a complete "floater", but it's close. Interestingly, the Calcites have a semi-"phantom"-esque appearance from what I believe are clay inclusions on one side of the specimen. The piece is in great shape overall, and the largest Calcite crystal measures 3.4 cm across. An attractive specimen from this well known Fluorite producing district.
