Item Description

This striking and outstanding large gem crystal is commonly referred to as yellow tanzanite, though it is still a variety of zoisite (as is tanzanite, itself). Rare colored zoisites were prominently featured in the 2009 Mineralogical Record issue on the Merelani Tanzanite Mines - and this would be a huge one in comparison to what is documented there! The tapered parallel-growth crystal has beautiful rich golden-yellow color and an etched termination. Fabulous purple to dark blue tanzanite areas on noted on both side faces adding amazing color accents. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, a single small ding on a prism corner is out-of-sight in the primary display view - so it is as near to undamaged as you could want. This is a dramatic large example of the rare yellow varietal from this famous locale that has to be simply the best in the world for such things. It is 66 grams or 330 carats mass. Valued at $5000 and worth it. RARE in this size and quality. The crystal GLOWS a gorgeous rich orange, when underlit up the C-axis! Another specimen from a recent lot exchange I got specifically for these auctions, that normally I'd sell fully retail. It is simply not replaceable. NOTE: WHILE MOST TANZANITE IS HEATED TO CHANGE THE BLUE COLORS TO THE UNIFORM JEWELRY-GRADE BLUE, this is not possible with these other colors of zoisite from here. This coloration is natural, and quite rare!
